Sunday evening I was home and settled in. The first week after my surgery was spent keeping track of the time and my medications. Naturally the medications made me drowsy and I dozed off frequently. Being home was nice and comfortable as I had more options of where I planted myself than I did at the hospital. Part of me still missed the hospital though, the nurses and aides took such great care of me. Having a full menu for every meal was a real treat. The hospital bed had an "air cushion control" mattress topper that more comfortable than anything I had ever experienced. Every time I moved the air pump would equalize the air in the topper to match all the pressure points. IT WAS AMAZING!
At home I didn't have all the luxuries of the hospital, but there is nothing like being in your own place.
Wednesday (11th) I had my first appointment to have my compressions wraps changed and to inspect my wounds for healing. The place was a Physical Therapy Clinic, much like the one I work in. In chatting with the PT who changed my wraps, she learned I was a PTA and questioned why I did not go to my own clinic. We all discussed how it would be just as good for me to go there, as that is where I would be receiving my formal PT for my recovery. However, upon calling the doctor's office it appeared to be more trouble than it was worth to switch my wraps/wound care to my clinic due to the doctor's office being very particular about this.
Upon seeing my wounds they were healing well. The "bruise" on my medial malleoli was still ugly looking, but had not broken through the skin. The skin over the bruise was becoming more opague looking though, and I anticipated that it would wear on the skin if the boot continued to rub on it. The PT put extra padding with a cutout to help take pressure off of the area. After rewrapping me all back up, my ankle felt really good.
After leaving my appointment, I introduced Donavan to one of my favorite food joints in Peoria. The place was on our way home and had a drive thru, so he gave it a try. Mr G's on Main street has the best Chicago dogs around. He loved them!
